The company has been shortlisted for Most Innovative Real-Time Passenger Information Initiative for the Poole and Bournemouth Electronic Passenger Information (EPI) 4 system and Ticketing Technology of the Year for the new bus stop ticket collection system.

The Awards, now in their fifth year, recognise and celebrate the organisations which have worked tirelessly to build, establish and deploy successful smart ticketing programmes across Europe.

The award for the Most Innovative Real-Time Passenger Information Initiative is new for this year. It aims to celebrate the transport operator and/or technology partner that has revolutionised how passengers not only receive travel information but are able to plan their journey end-to-end.

21st Century’s EPI 4 system for Poole and Bournemouth is different because it utilises open standards and can therefore consume feeds from multiple suppliers.

EPI 4 also means that with a small adjustment, the local authority’s existing 3 line LED and other competitor signs can be controlled in addition to the new screens supplied by 21st Century Technology, and still consume the data feed from different/multiple RTI suppliers.

EPI is built on a scalable architecture that gives customers the ability to power growing information estates, and disseminate data to other devices, such as a passengers’ smartphone.

In the second category for which 21st Century is shortlisted, the Ticketing Technology of the Year is awarded for a brand-new product which is set to revolutionise ticketing.

21st Century’s bus stop ticket collection device was created as a concept for Centro to allow passengers to top-up their PAYG card online and negate the need to visit one of the Payzone outlets in the area.

The new device allows the Swift card to effectively operate as a travel wallet, housing multiple products. After a passenger purchases their tickets or tops up a Pay-As-You-Go account, the ticket collection devices transmit the data to the Swift card.

The Transport Ticketing & Passenger Information Awards will be judged by an esteemed panel of industry experts. The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 26th January 2016 at the London Transport Museum.
