Journeo has launched Next Stop Announcement (NSA), an all-in-one integrated solution designed to offer a long-term solution to PSVAIR compliance for bus and coach operators.
Unlike conventional approaches focused solely on achieving compliance, Journeo’s NSA solution has been developed to support operators both now and in the years that follow. The platform combines onboard hardware, automated content management and remote monitoring capabilities into a single system, reducing manual intervention and ongoing maintenance requirements.
Route and stop content is programmed and updated automatically, drawing on open data and the systems operators already have in place. Timetable changes and route amendments flow through without manual reprogramming or additional depot visits from suppliers.
With this approach, NSA is a solution that is easily scalable and suitable for retrofit and factory installation. Backed by nationwide technical support and field service, it addresses the ongoing complexities of meeting the latest accessibility legislation.
Mark Johnson, Director of Fleet Systems at Journeo, said: “The industry has been rapidly installing products and systems to meet the PSVAIR requirements since they were introduced in 2023. The Government correctly asked operators to prioritise accessibility for a group of passengers who, for varied reasons, have more cause than most to feel anxious about using public transport.
“However, achieving initial compliance is just the start as once these systems are in place, they need to be maintained and updated to continue displaying vital passenger information. The NSA solution offers an integrated system that’s easy to install, run and maintain. Our end-to-end support will ensure that you not only meet compliance, but can continue to do so with ease and reduced costs for the foreseeable future.”
NSA has already been installed across over 40 vehicles for Ipswich Buses, with display screens, amplifiers, diversion switches, hearing loops and speakers, where needed, to the fleet.
Dan Bassett, Managing Director at Ipswich Buses, said: “We want everyone to feel confident when travelling with Ipswich Buses, regardless of how often they use our services or their individual accessibility needs.
“As well as supporting customers who are blind, partially sighted, hard of hearing or visually impaired, this technology supports everyone, including those who may be less familiar with bus travel. Ultimately, it’s about making journeys easier, more accessible and helping more people travel independently with confidence.
“Journeo has been a strong and trusted partner throughout the delivery and installation of the Next Stop Announcement system, working closely with us to provide a solution that met both the PSVAIR requirements and our operational needs. The system is straightforward to operate and maintain, without creating a significant additional workload for our team. We are also confident it will continue to support us over the longer term through automated route updates, system health monitoring and ongoing end-to-end support.”
